Feeding Schedule

Okay so I have a young less than a year but old enough to eat a pinky/fuzzy rat normal ball python and i got her at an expo in pomona on Saturday. She ate the day of the expo and monday and also thursday (saturday ate a hopper mouse and monday ate a fuzzy mouse and yesterday she ate the p/f rat). Now by all means im not going to do this schedule continuously. I just wanted to see what she was more interesting in eating and because the hopper mouse was to small for her. I didnt force feed so i mean when i offered the fuzzy rat she must have had an appetite. Now i want to know what some full time and part time breeders do as far as eating schedule for their yearling females to get them ready for breeding weight, BUT still be healthy and not obese. Im against shoving mouse after mouse into the snake BTW!

How much does she weight?

Reason I ask is that fuzzy rats and hopper mice are generally used to start hatchlings who quickly move to bigger preys in a matter of weeks.

Fuzzy mice and pinky rats are way too small.

You should feed something equal to her girth size (widest part of your BP's body) every 5 to 7 days as they grow and than every 7 days.

Also if rats are what you want to feed I would suggest to stick to them and no longer offer mice. ;)

Ok now I'm confused! You say hoppers for hatchlings? The advice I have gotten on here for my 3 month old was she should be eating a hopper every 5 days or so( she is approx 16 or 17 inches long and she weighs 88 grms, but was only 60 grms when I got her a month ago and at that time was being fed a pinkie every 2 weeks which I knew was wrong when I got her) was she should be eating a hopper every 5 days or so. Are you saying she should be on small mice by now? I can't see her getting one down. She takes a bit to get the hopper down now.

Yeah my plan was to stick with the rat =]

Well shes around 150 grams. and her girth matched the weight of the rat. the rat was inbetween a pinky and a pup.

I feed all mine (hatchlings to adults) once a week personally.

At 150 they can take down an adult mouse or a small rat pup without problems.

Depends on what YOU like ;), I like them bright with dorsal or semi dorsal stripe :gj:

Yeah thats how i like them too but i didnt know if thats what you or other people consider a nice looking female mojave. aha

what exactly is a bright dorsal or semi dorsal stripe?
