Help my lizard is sick and my vet has no clue!
:please:I have a Savannah Monitor lizard that I rescued and we are unsure how old he is my vet puts him at 14 15 years however he has had a very rough life before I got him! Now this evening I went to give him his bath and then some food but he refused the fod then his breathing became laboured and now he wont move he is breathing shallow and has his mouth open now as I live in saskatoon saskatchewan we dont have any real reptile vets so im reaching out to any of you who can help me. is there anythig I can do for him he was just at the vet not even two weeks ago and they gave him a clean bill of health and now this im beside myself right now!:(
    Thanks, Elisa

Call any regular vets in your area and ask if they know of any reptile vets that would be driving distance.

There might be one around, you just haven't found it yet.

I have NO clue as I have never had them. Here are my suggestions.....

Call any and all reputable breeders....you can look on Fauna for that.

You can try to give my reptile vet a call and talk to him. His name is Dr. Jarchow...(Jar Cow) he is one of the top 5 reptile vets in the world. His number is (520) 877-2626
I am not sure if he could help you but ya never know....he also might be willing to work through your vet so have that number handy. This guy is amazing!!!

They don't need baths unless you're soaking to remove stuck skin.

The open mouth and huffing is something they do when scared.

If the tail is fat, it's probably ok.

    Post up pics.

What's the temp in the hotspot?

I am of the view that the lizard has become too old to eat. Anyway I think she should show her pet to another vet. I am also from Saskatoon area and I would request her to take her pet to Cumberland Vet Clinic. I am pretty sure that they will able to help the poor creature.
