mites, snakes, and rodents question
OK I got a friend bringing me about 70 + rodents this weekend.( still need ot figure out were to stick this many) His buddy up near him has had a mite issue, that end up killing 5 of his snakes. I getting a bunch of free rodents since he guy not going to need them now that he lost these 5 snakes. He gotten chewed out by my friend about the mite and such and what not. I am wondering what possible precautions I should take for when these rodents get here to preven an possible transfer of mites to a minium. My delma is this I just had surgery ( outpatient ) today and I can not lift, drive or anything until monday at earliest.I have a piece of can of PAM, ad I have some other stuff tha has the same checimal as the pam.( no funds until possibly Febuary to order more) I don't really plan on bringing the rats in the snake room, but I need some ideals on how ot possible house this many, what Ican house them in tempary until I can figure out what tanks I got in the shed and were to possible put them. (space is a bigg issues for me).
PLan as of right now, is to set up tanks with pine shaving s and spray with PAM and allow to sit until the rodentes get here. this will allow it ot dry and to start working almost right away. my other possible option is if i can barrow some funds off family to builda rodent rack and treat it. ( would need some plans, as well as rough list of parts) I think I can assemble it in a day.
Re: mites, snakes, and rodents question
Meh. Id just freeze the lot of em'.
Re: mites, snakes, and rodents question
oh I figured I could to that as well, but I was thinknig with the ones nursing I raise them up some so they be usefuly food items. ( I need more breeding colonies with 21 snakes in my care. ) I really need to win a small amoun tlotto or something ( like 700k ( after taxes) to get a place and set up a proper reptile building on my own land. lol)
Think I be alright if I treat the tanks with Prevent a mite, to allow the pups to finish nursing and grow up? also is ther a way to wash/bath the rats ina soap ot hel pkill the mites if i prefer to use some for breeding colonies?
Re: mites, snakes, and rodents question
lol rats/mice to me same thing snake food. as for he feeding off of some that got ot ohappen as i been unable ot get my rats to keep up with the production needsx for my snakes, I plan on treating everyone's tank as well ( hoping enough spray) if not I got some other stuff to trat the tubs with and let air out for a bit( or use it on the rodents)
I just know I not very comfortable this morning ( day after surgery ) but can't say why since it get my in trouble, I just goingo t say ouch and wish I had some neosporion to rub on the area(s) to increase healing and possible soften the edges while reducing the pain some...
Re: mites, snakes, and rodents question
well outside the few I gonigo t keep for breeding I prolly freeze most off as i don't have enough room ( or a money to build a rodent rack) to house them all.
That be one of my summer plansI think to remove he old snake ( boa sized tank) and put a rodent rack in it place. then I can ditch the glass tanks.
