Need a new screen top. any suggestions?
The screen top i have is the kind that is hinged length wise.. unfortunately the hinges rusted...and now its separated.
the kitties like to sit on top of the screen so its not good that its not completely closed. For the time being I have taped a plastic lid from an under bed box to the outside of the tank so that if and when they sit up there it wont sag in the middle and create an opening. if that makes sense.

Now my question is...is there a hinged screen top that wont rust!!??
and does anyone think the hinged ones would be more supportive of the kitties sitting on top of the tank? do we think a hinged screen top is stronger than say, one that is the metal mesh the whole way? or not? cus the hinge parts I guess are not that sturdy?
you probably became a little dumber after reading this im sorry. LOL

Can you post some pics of the tank, top, and hinge? That might help with ideas on how to fix or replace it.

Personally, I wouldn't let the cats sit on top of the tank...

I would think letting them sit on the screen could be bad for a couple of reasons..

1: Even with it closed securely, they may weigh enough to literally fall through the screen.

    and

2: If they're not declawed and they wanted to get in, they could do that easily I'm sure. You have already said that 1 did swipe at your snake.

i assure you she is safe INSIDE the tank. they just sit on there and watch her. and they are obv not heavy enough to fall thru to the tank since ive had the snake since may.

I would think that the cats would scare the snake, as they will view them as predators.

Also, I believe cats and dogs carry staph on their feet. It may be farfetched but if they walk all over the screen couldn't that concievably get in there and the snake (which licks to smell) pick it up? I'm a CSI investigator by night BTW, lol.

People are just trying to help. If you don't want to hear what they have to say, then you shouldn't be asking anyways.
