New setup

Hi its me again I just started moving my Bps over to their new heat rack. I have a problem I am using one strip of 3inch heat tape on each level and an thermostat and the rack is only two levels. The Thermostat probe is directly on the heat tape on the bottom level of the rack. I currently have the therm set 2 120 in order to get the temp to 90 in the hot area of the tubs which are 28qt btw. I am having no issues with the bottom rack the rack above it like 4inches if that the hotspot temp is a bit low sometimes. should I set the prob to the top racks tape? btw im using a Ranco ETC-111000 Pre Wired. I am putting links to the gear I used on the rack just incase it helps more. Plz any tips are welcome. I placed large water dishes in the cage just in case something weird happens. I also use a IR temp gun to check my temps.

How many levels are in the rack?

Normally people put the thermostat probe in the middle - heat rises so the tubs below are slightly cooler and those above are slightly hotter.

120 to get to 90 sounds like a heck of a lot bigger difference than we'd expect however so a few pics of the rack might not be a bad idea.

Yup saw that in the other thread. :)

Where and how are you you using the temp gun? Is the tub sitting in the rack when you shoot the surface of the plastic inside just above the heat tape?

I mention this as they cool down fast - even pulling open my lidless ones and lifting the paper gives it time to cool down a little compared to the reading I get using a probed thermometer.

How is the thermostat probe attatched to the heat tape? Got any pics of that?

Sorry for all the questions but the 120f setting is worrying me a little.

I use my IR them at the very back and the front i shoot the open area then I shoot under the back hide and do the same for the front. I dont open the top all the way to make sure I get a good reading on the heat. I dont shoot the tape itself because it can vary. I have recently lower the temp to about 110 and my temps inside the tube are stabling out. I keep a very close eye on the tubs as I shoot them every few hrs until my Digital Themometers arrive tomorrow. The probe is taped directly to the heat tape with electric tape almost middle of the bottom row. I will put in the digitals tomorrow and doc the temps and make a change. Rest assured that I am just as worried about that 120 as u lol. I have kept pets for years and the reason for switching to Bps was because I got tired of watching my babies die from old age.

I would tape the probe of the thermostat down using the aluminium tape - it stands up to the heat better and doesn't come loose.

And, preaching to the choir I'm sure, but no tape of any kind inside the snakes enclosure - a drop from a hot glue gun works best with zero risk to the snake. :gj:

Ty so much for all ur help I will be sure to switch over that eletric tape for my foil tape I will keep u updated. I think everything will be okay the female I moved from the glass to the tubs hadnt feed in a few weeks and she actually ate today so im rather plz an Im hoping this is a good sign
