Question about computer fans and transformer size.

I am almost done with my cooler incubator :D. I just need to order the pc fans and transformers. Im not sure witch transformer would best fit a 3inch 12vdc fan.
I dont want the transformer to be to powerful and burn out the motor of the fan or not be powerful enough. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Now the question is what transformer to use ?

both are 12vdc. 1200ma or 500ma ?

For a small fan that size, a 500ma transformer should be plenty.

Just go to a computer store and buy a used fan! That's what I did! Also I just bought a multi use adapter from Walmart and wired it to the fan then you can just change the voltage with the switch and it will control your fan speed!

One other thing, watch which way the fan spins and if it's not the design direction switch the wires. I had a fan with curved blades and with the wrong spin direction the air force on the blades straitened them to longer and rubbed on the housing and burned the fan motor up.

You might also want to consider a ac computer fan (little more expensive) but no http://www.coolerguys.com/ac120vfans.html no transformer getting hot in the long run ;)

A 120 V AC fan is going to generate way too much heat. Get the 4” 12V DC Brushless Fan from Radio Shack with a transformer for power. It will cost about $40.00 for the setup but I have tried cheaper models and they burn up after a year. I have one of them that I have been using for eight years now and it is running great. Here is a LINK but you will probably want to buy it at your local store to get the right plug for the transformer.

Can you post some pics on how the fan is wired to the transformer and T-stat? I think i'm picking this fan up on friday for my incubator and I would like to know how to hook it up.
