Male Tail Wagging

    Male Tail Wagging
I have a male who seems to be very reluctant to lock.

I noticed a lot of tail wagging going on the last two times that I paired them. Last night I heard what sounded like quite a lot of activity going on in their tank so I looked in, and was surprised to see that it was the male.

He seems to get very highly active during the first 45 or so minutes that he's exposed to the female. He moves in a quick, jerky way and darts around the tank, wagging and lifting his tail.

Is this because he's interested in the female, or is he really stressed out? Is it a good or a bad sign? Right now he is curled up in a small ball, as far away from the female as he can get.

    Hi,

That sounds like a good sign to me. Maybe she isn't in the mood?

You could try misting them ( I think it helps spread the scents? ), or pairing them 24-48 hours after she had a meal or just after a shed.

Do you have any others at breeding size you could use to mix things up a little?

Maybe putting the shed from another male or female into the tank with them might be enough to spur some action.

Maybe he is just shy... Perhaps you want to borrow a little 'mojo' from your other male and rub on his gf. :D

Okay, thank you. I'm glad to hear I'm not stressing him out. I do have another male and female of breeding age, and I'll try all the suggestions. If I see them locked it will just make my year. :please: Thanks :-)
