Need some advise

Ok I got a weird call today from an old friend who said he had something for me. When I got there I found a cinny female baby and a pastel juvi. He said he got them both a month ago and neither would swap to frozen thawed so he gave them to me. Well the cinny only has one eye and was born that way and the pastel has the wobbles BAD. My main question is do morphs with the wobbles need special attention and if so what and also is the cinny with one eye a genetic thing or just a fluke in an incubator? Thanks for any advise.

To my knowledge the only morph that wobbles is the Spider morph. I know for sure the Pastel morph does NOT normally wobble. Could be a serious virus causing the wobble called IBD. Check out this link for info on it http://www.anapsid.org/ibd.html

Never heard of a BP coming out of a incubator with one eye, regardless of temp so I got nothing I can really say about that.

That does sound a bit fishy to me...

The wobbling pastel would definitely raise the alarm for IBD, which is generally fatal to pythons. If I were you I'd exercise caution with these snakes... Just doesn't ring right to me.

There are other morphs that wobble. It's just something that's not generally spoken of.

It sounds to me like they both should've been added to the cryogenic zoo. But if you're going to keep them, I'd start off with a trip to the vet to make sure they're healthy.

I know that Spiders wobble but I don't think that any other morphs do it. If it IS IBD I would be VERY careful so that it doesn't spread to any other snakes in your collection.

Thanks for the info. Is there a possibility that this is from a spider x pastel clutch and inherited the wobble? There is no mouth rot or anything crazy she just has what seems to be a severe wobble. She is quarentined and I'm keeping a close eye on her I've just never heard of a pastel with a wobble. Also is a one eyed snake bad genetics or a fluke accident?

Without knowing the history of those animals it hard to tell anything.

While wobble is generally found in spiders other morphs and normal can also show neurological problem (rare but it can happen)

Is the neurological problem genetic, due to incubation due to husbandry (enclosure being over heater) who knows?

Could it be IBD? again not enough info there and while peole have a tendency to often jump to that conclusion, you need to remember that IBD kills BP in a matter of a few weeks. so if the animal has been like that for a while and the other is not showing any signs it's probably something that can be ruled out, and of course the only way to truly know would be a liver biopsy or necropsy should the worse happen.

As for the missing eye same thing hard to tell it can also be an injury that could have caused all this as well.

Hopefully you practice VERY strict quarantine procedures.

Simply keep monitoring them during that time. depending on how severe the neurological problem is with the pastel you might have to euthanize the animal should he not strive or eat in his own.
