my bp is shedding for the first time...

well i have had my ball for about 3 weeks now and has been eating like a champ. i have noticed for the past few days its scales have been getting kinda dull/cloudy. well today its eyes are covered over. i cant wait to see how brilliant it looks in its new skin. should i hold off feeding until it sheds? i have the humidity at 65% so hopefully everything goes without a hitch :D

First off, that's great to hear. The first sheds they have with you are always a relief!

About the feeding, it doesn't hurt to try, both my BPs are good eaters and will eat while they are in shed. If your snake doesn't eat don't worry about it.

cool, thanks dz. it is really active right now like it is looking for a meal. by the way, "its" name is spot lol.tomorrow is feeding day, i will see if spot is hungry tomorrow. how long does it usually take to shed and how often do they shed when they are young? just curious.

I really don't know the answer to how long it takes for them to shed, if there even is a set day mark.

It depends on how fast they are growing.

Someone with a little more knowledge than me will probably answer those questions soon, and will probably do it a little more thoroughly than I can :p

Yay! Monsta, my girl didn't eat at all while in shed, also i did not want to bother her much either.
She shed in 7 days and honestly, my Humidity was way low. I had a heater on in her room and an light bulb on to keep the air at 80. which made my humidity trying a fail. Surprisingly she shed just fine.
I read on this site that they can take anywhere from 9-14 days

my girl went into shed just 2 weeks after i brought her home. i actually was not expecting it so i did not notice her skin go dull or her cloudy eyes until i was cleaning later that evening. i had tried to feed her and she struck at the rat twice, missed both times then gave up when the rat got defensive. (i removed it as soon as i saw that)
i had thought it was the rat's size throwing her off so i went and got a couple smaller ones and tried one of them which she completely refused so i decided to wait for a week before trying again.
then that evening my daughter noticed her eyes were blue and told me and i kinda went "what?! are you sure? lemme see." i looked and sure enough they were clouded over so i looked for the other telltake shed signs - dull skin and pink belly. found them too and went "AHA! no wonder you couldn't get ahold of the rat today! & no wonder you've been such a miss pissy-pants the last few days." then i just left her alone completely until 7 days later when i noticed she was rubbing the skin off.
fed her the day after that and she ate like a champ as well.
the shed sticky is extremely helpful. i think it's in bp husbandry.

i read the shed article today. very useful. i think spot has been in shed longer than i thought judging by that article. thank you for all the input. i cant wait to get some fresh shed pics. my daughter cant wait for the shed either, she wants to take the skin into her 2nd grade class to show her teacher and friends. hopefully she can educate her teacher a little, she (the teacher) is terrified of snakes.

well today is feeding day, and even though spot is shedding, it attacked and ate great. fed it a large mouse live and it lasted no time lol.:D
