Palpating
Hey Ya'll, Just tried to palpate my big female and surprise felt 1 little marble in her belly. Tried it 3 more times without feeling anything. Is this normal? Can I hurt her or the follicles by palpting her? Could it have been something else I felt. She did refuse to eat for the last 3 weeks so I don't think had anything to do with her intestinal tract. Any ideas?

Re: Palpating
Don't have a weight right now. I'm picking up a digital scale for Harbour Freight tomorrow.

Re: Palpating
OK, got my scale today and she weighs 1695g. However she has refused food for the last three weeks.

when did you first start pairing the two or observe the first copulation?

Re: Palpating
Started pairing on Oct. 15th. Witnessed the first hard lock on Nov. 10th. I have witnessed them lock 6 times since then.

Re: Palpating
she looks like she's kind of laying on her side, which some females will do when they're developing...what did you do when you palpated her?

Re: Palpating
I allowed her to go through my hand and back into her enclosure with my thumb along her spine and my index finger along her belly. I felt 1 marble in her belly the first time a little more then 2/3rds the way down her body. I tried it a few more times to try and feel more but didn't even feel the one that I had felt before. Maybe she had just tensed up so I couldn't feel anything after the first time. I will try again here in a few minutes.

I've had this happen a few times with smaller follicles. Now, I've only been somewhat successful with palpating (finally got the hang of it last season), so I'm definitely no expert. What I experienced was that with smaller follicles, about marble size, I would feel the follicles the first time, try for a second time to make sure I counted right, and sure enough, didn't feel anything. A few days later I tried again and sure enough, I felt the follicles again. It might just be her tensing up. Once the follicles get bigger, its easier to feel them each time.

just as jay said I would wait a few days and palpate again. let us know how it goes :) chances are she did just tense up and at that size they'd be easy to miss.
