My 15yr. old daughter got her 1st BP 40 inches long and she likes to wear it around her neck, it does tighten a little snug at times ? Also I made fake rock decoration for her tank and sealed it with BEHR low luster cement sealer. I was wanting to have a trickle water fall run into the water dish but I'm kinda of choking on the safety of sealer. no pun intended http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...3/IMG_0942.jpg

Trust me the snake is not trying to choke your daughter lol! It's just trying to hold on.
The rock is awesome. In my opinion I wouldn't try to do the waterfall thing. It may be cool but will probably become a pain in the but :p

Biggest thing in my mind with the waterfall is the snake not getting the tail or tongue or something caught in the pump... or (more likely) not getting substrate or poop sucked up into the pump and burning it up.

There's no worries about the ball choking your daughter. Even if he wanted to (which he doesn't) he wouldn't be able to.

As for the structural stuff, it looks absolutely stunning and it sounds like an awesome idea! Sorry I can't help with the safety of that, i'm not really good with that kind of stuff lol.

Gene does that when I put him around my neck, it helps if I give him a finger or two to wrap his tail around, that seems to relax him a little. If it makes your daughter (or you) nervous, try that, move slowly when carrying it, that might help reassure your slithering friend that you mean him or her no harm.

szon3 I often have young people visit me and handle my animals. I have a very large female and a couple of large males. I have a few ground rules for the safety of both animal and visitors ;)

Never handle an animal alone. They are free to look but to take out and hold needs an adult around and to be told that they want to take out one of the snakes. The other is if they are going to place the snake on their shoulders, they must sit down. The snakes do not tighten often but if they do it is because they feel unsteady sitting down prevents that mostly. Two simple rules.

As to the sealer I have no direct experience with that particular product typically with paints in general that once they have 'gassed out' they are inert and non toxic. UNLESS there is some anti fungal or bacterial component of some sort. Usually I'll allow 10 days under well ventilated and warm environment to make sure that is complete.

The snake won't harm her, if it does hold on too tight...pull it off, your alot stronger than they are and the only reason the snake would grab on that tightly is because it thinks its going to fall.

any kind of finish, i always suggest water based products and give it enough dry time, wait til you can't smell the product anymore, you should be good to go then.
