thinking about breeding feeders

im thinking about breeding i hav 3 ball pythons right now will probably have 2 more in a coupple months...what would be my best way to breed...2 tanks 2 females and 1 male per tank...can you leave the males with the females after birth??? how big of tanks/tubs would i need...i have been looking at breading mice but was sugested to do rats...i have not tried to feed my balls rats yet

You could do one male to two females. Most that I have spoken to do a 1.3 setup.

I leave my males and females together and have not had any issues. Some say separate each female into their own birthing tank/rack. You'll get alot of different answers. My suggestion would be to take all the answers you get and pick what works best for you.

I currently use 58 qt sterilite containers that I modified for my rats. I've been using them for almost a year and a half and have only had two get chewed through and nobody got far before I found them lol. Someday I am going to make a rack system which is probably the best way to go. There are plenty of threads on here to see what others are using as well.

With rats I thnk a large plastic tub with more floor space would be better.

10g would be too small for 3 adult rats. 20 long would be the smallest i'd be comfortable with personally. 10g might work for a birthing/nursing mother, but not adults.

use a mortar tub with a single lid if need be. Much better setup than an aquarium period.

how do you set up a morter tub...just make a screen lid or drill holes in the sides???sorry im new to breading feeders

worst case...buy a mortar tub from home depot (theirs are thicker than the one's from Lowe's) and build a lid for it. Food sits on top of the lid and so does the water bottle. That will give you roughly twice the floor space a 10 gallon will, easier to clean, better venting, easier to feed and water= happy rats.
