thinking about breeding mice
i have 3 ball pythons right now probably get a couple more in a few moths....im looknig at breeding mice thinking 1.2 in a 10 gal tank allready have this tank and 2 weeks later getting another group at 1.2 in a 10 gal...just seeing what you all think i will need to raise these to adult so by time i am feeding them i should have more being about ready to feed off and more on the way
Re: thinking about breeding mice
cheap lab cages are MUCH better than 10 gallon tanks.
Re: thinking about breeding mice
IMO I'd stop thinking about breeding mice and start thinking about breedng rats or ASFs. Rats dont smell as bad as mice, and ASFs dont smell as bad as rats. Also rats get up to size faster than mice, plus if you think about the future you're going to need a heck of a lot of mice(4-7 full sized mice per snake) to feed adult sized ball pythons whereas if it were rats you'd only need one medium rat per snake.
Just my :2cent:
Re: thinking about breeding mice
im just worried i wont be able to get them to switch to rats
Re: thinking about breeding mice
If they're feeding live then it shouldnt be too hard to do, if on F/T it may be a bit harder but it's worth it to do it when they're younger cause once they're all grown up it'll be even harder.
Re: thinking about breeding mice
If you can stand their smell, then go for it. I personally can not. I had hundreds of rats in my garage for one week and only two mice for two days. The mice stank much worse than the rats within that time.

one colony of 1.5 mice equals 100 rats in smell.. nasty little creatures.
