Regarding Humidity

When I first got my Ball Python I had a 30 gallon TALL tank. The Ball Python would "climb" to the top of the tank and fall so I replaced the tank with a new 40 gallon long.

I have no problem keeping the tank at the right temperatures but I find myself fighting the humidity. In the basking spot I keep the temp right about 90 degrees and the in the dark it's roughly 80 degrees.

The Humidity through out the tank is 60%. I would like to raise it a little bit more, any suggestions?

To pictures show the tank setup, as you can see in the far right under the basking light there is moss to help with the humidity. The lid has foil on it and I'm using Aspen substrate.

Any suggestions on how to better maintain the humidity? In my old tank I used to have a waterfall setup that was great in keeping the humidity right about 65 - 72% but this new tank has a proper sliding lid and I do not want to put in holes in it unless I have too.

There's nothing wrong with 60% humidity. The best solution would be to get an Under Tank Heat Pad and a thermostat. This would provide belly heat on the warm side. Then, if you still needed the lamp for supplemental heat, you could get a lamp dimmer or digital timer so that it either runs at a lower wattage or is cycled on and off by the timer. This will help keep the lamp from sucking out all of the humidity. In the meantime, you could try using a larger water bowl or taking the moss out and putting just water in that one. Basically you are just increasing the amount of water surface in the tank. You can also try using Cypress or Coconut husk substrate. Alot of people have said they work better for hold humidity in...

You don't really need higher than 60%. I'd leave it where it is, high humidly and low air circulation can lead to all kinds of health issues. 60% is fine not to worry.

As the others have said, 60% is just fine for your snake, but if you want to raise it for during the shed cycle the best advice I can give you is to go with an under tank heater and a thermostat, because ball pythons don't need a lot of heat so usually a UTH is perfect. Another tip I can give you is to go for cypress or coconut bedding because they seriously hold in the humidity. I used to have to fight to keep my humidity in the 40's, but now I switched to coconut bedding and I have no trouble keeping humidity as high as 85%.

well 60% is fine i have a reptifogger going into my 2 ball python cages on the zoo med hygrotherm thermostat with a humidistat i truns the fogger off and on depending on how humid it is u can set it for temp + hum. i would look into it its a great product i no longer have to worrie about hum. message me for more info on it
