    Potential problem
It looks like Gene's scales are coming off. I've been trying to get a good picture, but I haven't had any luck. It looks like its happening all over his body, with a single scale in various places coming off. Closer to his neck it looks like its more than one. Any suggestions? I'll try and get pictures as soon as possible, he isn't cooperating though.

Here is another thread on the topic. Does it resemble this, or is it different?

Thank you so much for the links. Yes it looks similar but it is NOWHERE near as severe as that. He is already on paper towel substrate, but later on I will give the tank a thorough scrubbing and see if that helps matters.

Edit: I forgot to mention, I've been putting Neosporin on a mouse bite on his side. Based on the threads you showed me, that could be a potential cause too, I think.

How is the mouse bite looking?

The bite is looking amazing! I have been putting Neosporin on it since I noticed it and it has healed to the point where the wound is still there, but it looks like the skin has grown back as have the scales, and the color is more like his normal color now. I'll try to snap a picture of that later as well.
