Re: feeding ballpythons
You can feed by weight or size. To do it by weight, you will need some type of digital scale. Weigh the snake and then feed prey that is approximately 10%-15% of the snakes weight. It's always easier to feed 1 approprately sized prey item, however, in cases where it is necessary to feed multiple prey items, then using this method will be more accurate because then, the combined weight of the prey items should be in the 10%-15% range and will help prevent overfeeding.
The other option is to judge it by size. This works when feeding 1 prey item. The prey should be about the same size around as the snake is at it's thickest point. If you aren't comfortable with just "eyeballing" it, you can use something like a (not sure of the actual name) cloth tape measure to measure the circumference of the snake and then use it to measure the prey. If you don't have access to one of these tape measures you can always use a strip of paper. Just wrap it around your snake, make a mark on the paper where the end meets, and there you have it, a gage of how big around your snakes are to use for measuring prey. Good Luck... :gj:
