What are you using to regulate the heatpad?

What are you using to provide the heat? A smaller watt bulb (if you're using bulbs) or a dimmer switch for either a bulb or an under-tank-heater (UTH). If you're using a UTH, you really need to control it with something. A good quality thermostat is best, but in a pinch, a dimmer switch will do, it just takes more attention depending on how stable or unstable the ambient temps of the room are.

You can get a "lamp dimmer" from any hardware store for less than $15...just plug it in and plug the heat source into the dimmer cord...and it has a little switch you can use to dial down the amount of power. Very simple fix.

If your not able to get a dimmer, and if your using a bulb as the heat source, you can also try to raise the light so it's not sitting directly on the top of the lid.
