    Rat Snake acting weird
    Hi all!

Thought I'd put this in general, since its not really rat specific.

I have a rat snake, Cletus, who is full grown (no idea of age, picked him up at a show already full grown). Once we got him home, we noticed he has a slack jaw that doesn't sit right very often. It does not seem to bother him, and he eats with no problem. We figure this is from some sort of calcium def. at some point in his life, but there's no way to tell for sure.

We recently thought he might have a RI, so we put him in QT, and started watching him closer. He is showing no typical signs of an RI though... but he's acting weird. He is opening his mouth, and making an odd.... hissing sound? He opens his mouth more so then a normal snake, but its getting to be a lot. Also, the other day he shot out a little thing... its like a white thin hardish thing from his mouth.

We're unable to get him into the vet until Friday at the earliest (not my fault, that's when our vet can see him), so I was wondering if anyone has ANY idea what might be up with him. Also, if anyone can clue me in as to what to tell/ask the vet, since we really are stumped here.

    Thanks!

Sounds like a Progressed RI with what came out of the mouth.

    Vet will be best diagnosis

We weren't sure, since there is no other typical signs (no frothy bubbles or anything like that).

I sure hope he's ok, since I have gotten quite attached to the silly guy.
