does anyone know how to get more information about an email address?

Depends on the email address and the information you are looking for. You can contact the host, so if its soandso@gmail you could put a request into gmail through their support system and explain why you need info.

You may have some issues getting info as it is usually protected. There are also a few lookup sites online that may be of some help.

What specifically are you trying to ascertain?

Theres sites out there that will trace the emails headers to find originating IP that sent the Email. Beyond that youll need warrants for personal information attached to the email.
