    Weird ASF coats / shedding?
I have ONE litter of ASFs who are about 1-2 months old, and all of a sudden, they're losing their fur from the top down. I would say they're just molting, but it's one specific litter that's all doing it, and the others are not doing it at all.

The fur that is left, after the 'shedding' is rough and not soft at all. It's just the undercoat, and it's a strange colour, since the over-coat colour is all gone.
Has anyone else seen something like this in ASFs before?

In these photos you can see where the fur is much shorter on their backs. It progresses downwards.

I have seen this happen on occasion... Never quite figured out what caused it.

In the long run it doesnt much matter, it will fill back in an they will be fine.

I have one single 4 month old that its hair is so light it is pink. Near hairless. This is one rodent from a litter of 10. None of the others have the same appearance.

I am having the same problem with the exception that I'm having a lot of mine have this problem. over half so far. No mites as far as I can tell just hairless patches and constant itching. Trying to figure it out but seems to be a common problem as I've read several threads with the same basic description. Anyone have anything to add?

I used to have litters that would shed out into patchy looking weirdness. That was back when I used to keep them in a 40 gallon cube tank until they got enough size on them to put them into troughs to grow the rest of the way to adulthood. I installed a fan to move air around more. Once they started getting more airflow, they stopped being patchy.

Not sure if it will work for anyone else, but it seemed to work for me and is a simple "worth a try" kinda thing.

The breeder I got my ASF from had told me that the see this happen with pine bedding, so they prefer to use Aspen. They think it may be an allergic type reaction. Hope that might help!

I will definitely try the fan trick. I am using aspen bedding for mine and always have and they still get all itchy and patchy then they seem to snap out of it and look fine.
