Re: Lesser x Reduced Norm
Does it matter that the female is significantly bigger than the male? My male is about 691g and the norm female is about 1710g. Weight wise it's only 2x but the females tail is a lot bigger than the male? I wouldn't think it would make a difference but does anyone know otherwise?
Thanks, and Merry Christmas!
Re: Lesser x Reduced Norm
That first pair is going to make some beatiful reduced Lessers!
And as for the size difference, that's totally fine. If he's producing plugs and is interested, you should be set.
Re: Lesser x Reduced Norm
That lesser male is just fine to get the job done, and they are awsome. How old is your female pastel?
Re: Lesser x Reduced Norm
Thanks for the replies. I put the lesser back in with the female last night after a few days rest. I have read about females tail wagging, but right when I put the male in, he started wagging his tail. This common? I thought for sure they would lock up, but I woke up this morning and their tails were close but not locked. Also I have also read something about not cleaning the cages AS much when trying to pair but I am assuming this doesn't mean leave the stools in the tubs, correct? Thanks again for the advice!

My pastel was born in June of 09, she is growing like a weed. I have never fed her more than one rat a week 10-12% of her body weight, but of course I'm not complaining about her growth rate. I'm thinking that she is naturally producing SGH (the snake version of HGH?!?!) haha.

Small males can certainly get the job done!
You'd be surprised some of the weight differences between breeders, especially of certain species.
50g hognose males can successfully breed 500g females, that's a size difference of TEN TIMES.
