new BP is very defensive is this comon?
Hey guys im new to this and just got my new BP about a week ago and he is very defensive when i bring him out of his cage. i was wondering if maybe he his stressed out because the tank is to big. the tank i have him in is a twenty gallon tank. i know that BP's stay in their hides 70% of the time but it seems like he is in his hide constantly. the temp on the warm side is 90 and on the cool side its 85. so i think i have got everything set for him/her yet him/her is still really defensive. any suggestions?

If it is a baby, that is totally normal. They seem to be hungry all the time, and think everything is food. Hiding a lot is totally normal too. I think if he's hiding all the time, that means your set up sounds good. The only time I see mine are at night, and getting close to feeding day. And, my little spider girl used to snap at me every time I opened her tub. With a little love, and handling he'll be fine.

Do you know how to recognize a shed cycle? That could be an issue to. Your hot side is a little warm. It should be more like 80-82. But, it shouldn't cause any problems.

Did you get him from a pet store? The only bp I bought from a pet store was pretty cranky too. They seem to stress out more being tapped at all day long, where as breeders keep them in quiet tubs. :)

a couple of my hatchlings are always cranky and try and take a chunk out of me any chance they can. I'm just hoping with time and them getting use to me that they will mellow out.
