Herpstat Pro and Flexwatt??

I have been doing alot of reading on the Herpstat Pro (Blue LCD) with 4 Individual Temp controlling. Looks like an amazing model and exactly the route I want to go.

Does anyone have any pics of there setup that is using one, and how you have the flexwatt connected to it and how it runs thru your rack setup? I have been searching and I'm not really seeing how this setup goes together???

Does the HSP have 4 individual outlets that the Flexwatt connects to? And how do the temp probs come out of it?

I'm getting ready to pull the gun on this and I just need a little clarification. Thanks fellas:gj:

HSP has 4 outlets (just like a wall outlet) and 4 probe ports on the back. Each probe is configured to that outlet only, allowing 4 completely different temps per outlet. I have a 7 level rack with 2 continuous strips running. The first one is for the upper 3 levels and the next strip is for the lower 4. The lower levels are my breeding levels so I have a night drop on them and the upper 3 are my juvis.
The other 2 ports are used on my burms tub (one for belly heat the other for ambient heat control.
Also if you have more than one flexwatt strip going to the same port you can try and find a none grounded extension out let to allow for more plugs to go into the one port.
I can have pics of it after I get off work.

I LOVE this unit. I can have 4 different settings on it at once for different animals if needed. Once the ball lay they will get on the same temp so only 1 prob will be needed and the extra probe will be used in the incubator.

Yes the herpstat pro has 4 individual outlets and 4 probes it comes with I have one running a rack as we speak. My rack is located in my office as are my enclosure so in my case heating the whole room makes me uncomfortable whist working.

My set up is quite simple I have 4 inch flexwatt along the bottom back (about 2 inches in from the end of the tub) the front edge has 17 inch low wattage flexwatt under the first 12 inches of the tubs. Both are covered by a very thin sheet of pvc ( tubs don't hang up on anything going in and out)

The hot end (back with 4 in FW ) is set to 91º on the probe on top of the flexwatt under the pvc (I loose one degree to the tub and pvc so it stays 90 inside the tub. This is plugged into outlet 1 and probe one.

Outlet 2 has the big flexwatt it is set to 83º (it actually maxes at 86 so it runs 60% almost all the time) The probe for outlet 2 is in the middle taped to the flexwatt under the pvc it looses a bit more and this sits at 79-80 it varies a bit here and there due to the low wattage of the flexwatt I used. Everything works well the probes are place in the middle rack.

There is a bit of variation (which make me crazy actually OCD) top to bottom due to thermal gain. The top runs about 1-2º higher than the probes and the bottom is 3-4º cooler I don't use the lowest tub for snakes due to this problem.

Again my set up. I found that if you use better cord for the flexwatt (not lamp cord) it seems to be a bit better top to bottom (line loss? ) I choose to heat the tubs and not the room so the room is at about 72º and it is quite a nice place to work.

I also run 4 enclosures this way as well dual controls hot and cold I like to take a break and look in at the set ups and relax. It isn't the cheapest option likely although my power bill isn't much more after adding 2 enclosures and rack.

I'm confused now.... I know you have to use your own cord for the flexwatt then either solder it in or use the metal clips. How exactly does it connect into the HSP? Do you have to splice it up to an RJ-45 Connector to plug into the HSP?

What kind of cord did you end up going with and is there a place that just sells it like all in one?

No, I bought the flexwatt bare, I set it up in parallel wiring running a short piece on each level. I used the heavier duity round lamp cord over the simple 2 strand 'lamp cord' (I bought the rack used and it was badly wired so I started over) The end is just a regular 2 leed plug.

There is no RJ-45 Connector on any herpstat pros I own (3) perhaps a really old one has it but in either case it is a data only connector. The herpstats can connect to a computer but I didn't bother with buying the software (mac computer too many hoops to make it worth while) with what looks like a mirco jvc of some sort?

The plastic connectors are quite thock and as the tubs in my set up slide over the connectons they are simply too big.

This is running two enclosures the rack one is hard to get to...

the only things I don't like about the pro is 400 watts for each of the 4 lines out. and if it goes down so will a lot of racks. the herpstat ll is 700 watts for each of the 2 lines out and even if buying 2 of these will be a little more, if one breaks you are only losing half as many racks and might even be able to power the others being the 700 watts per line, until you get a new unit. I have a few herpstats and I know that they rarely break. just something to consider and find which is best for you.
