Caring for a cut

I think the mouse got Gene the last time I fed him two days ago. I haven't messed with him at all until today, I usually wait two days. There's a small spot on his side, near his head where it looks like the mouse bit him. I think it happened because he struck the rear end rather than the head. How should I go about caring for it? It isn't inflamed, it doesn't seem like its bothering him and looks like it is healing on its own already, but I want to take the best care possible of the little guy. Thank you muchly!

Thanks for the link. I didn't even think about the search function, I was more in "Fix it NOW" mode. We just cleaned out his tank, replaced the substrate with newspaper. Luckily I had some ointment floating around anyway, so I put a bit of that on. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks again.

Just make sure it's WITHOUT pain killer. You can keep him on the newspaper til it's completely healed. Aspen might infect the cut so it's better to wait longer to make sure it's healed than to be hasty and put aspen in to soon. Feed normally as well, nothing should change but applying the ointment and the substrate.

Yeah I triple checked that it wasn't the kind with pain killer. Its a really small cut so I only had to use a tiny bit. I actually like the look of the newspaper over the substrate I was using before (this shredded white stuff we got from his previous owner), and he doesn't seem to mind it. I might just use newspaper from now on.

Well if you do, unprinted is the best. Called newsprint, if you only have 1 snake they sell it at Michaels or you can just do papertowels.
