Help!!

I just joined the forum and just yesterday said how wonderful my 2 month old was doing. I awoke tonite at 4 AM to find the velcro I had used to mount the thermometer had came lose and fallen off due to the heat in the tank. AND of course, she was stuck with her entire chin to the glass where the adhesive was!

I used the only oil i had, canola, to gently pry her off wit h a Qtip. I did a through exam and no skin tears THANK GOD! I did try and give her a warm soak and dried her off gently, but can not get all the oil off of her. Any chance this will harm her? She did not care for soaking in the least!

I did get all the adhesive out. God I feel so stupid! I am PRAYING she will be ok after that kind of stress. She did seem to be fairly calm afterward and when I put her back in the tank, she went around it some time before going into her hide. I fully expected her to dart right to that!

Take my advice with a grain or more of salt--I'm a newbie here. :(
Usually what the pros seem to offer as advice for a snake with tape stuck to them is to first get the tape off. If you have gotten most of the adhesive off, I think she should be ok.
I dont think the oil should harm her. Every now and then maybe take a slightly damp towel and rub around where the oil was, see if you can pick some up with the towel?
I'm not sure. In a few hours the experts can offer better advice.

Sorry I'm not more help. Stay calm, she should be fine, especially if she has no skin tears.

I think she'll be ok, the oil shouldn't hurt her since it has no chemicals in it. As long as you got all of the adhesive off and she has no skin tears I think she'll be fine. I'm no expert though.

Based on what you have said, I think the snake will be just fine. No more velcro adhesive in the enclosure though.

A little dish soap in the water might help get a little more of the oil off but I don't see it being a major problem.

A hot glue gun is a great investment for fixing things inside snake enclosures as it is easy to remove and, once cured and cooled, poses no threat to the snake. It sets quickly too.

Thanks for the advice. I think though I am going to stay away from ANY kind of glue or adhesive and get a thermometer with a probe!

THe site of her stuck really freaked me out. She seems to be doing ok and even stuck her head out of her hide a while ago, but being she is 2 months old and I've only had her for 5 days, I am praying this incident doesn't stress her to much.

On that note, she is due to eat tomorrow. Should I still try and feed her?

No harm in offering just prepare to deal with a refusal and not worry too much about it. :)

All this means is, if you feed live, have a little critter keeper with a waterbottle and some food standing by.

If you feed F/T then obviously you don't need to do anything apart from have a disposal method. :)

Ok if she DOES refuse, how long should i wait to offer again? The lady I got her from stated she was eating pinkies every two weeks, and I already found out that is WAY to long between feedings and also she should be eating fuzzies by now. So, if she refuses, I don't want her to have to go a week before feeding again.

Again, I have only had her for less then a week. She does have that "triangle" look from when viewing her from the top, and from what I have read here, that would indicate she wasn't being feed enough.

Damn. I don't think I was this nerveous when I brought my kids home from the hospital!
