    just curious about het percentages...
how do ya'll breeders know what percentage a het is?
i think i understand HOW one is determined a het but how do you determine the exact percentage?
i think the way the whole het system works is say you breed a pied to a pied and you end up with say 6 eggs that turn out to be 3 pied and 3 normals who would be considered hets, is that right?
how do you come up with the percent # for each of those hets?
please be gentle while trying to explain this to me as i get confused extrememely easily. :please:

Check out the sticky in the Ball Python Morphs and Genetics section. The thread is titled "A Lesson in Basic Genetics". It should answer your questons in great detail.

Let me know if you have any more questions after you read it.

if you breed a pied to a pied, you'll get nothin' but pieds!

(If you breed het pied to a het pied, then you'll get pieds and 66% possible hets. But see the sticky.)

I found the sticky extremely helpful when I first joined as well. Now I feel more confident in my understanding of hets. Very effective sticky. :)

Keep one thing in mind....a snake is either 100% het for a recessive gene or 0% het (normal). When you see the 66% het, 50% het, these are just chances of the animal being het or not. a 50% het pied does not produce pieds 50% of the time...the 50% means there is a 50% chance the animal is 100% het pied. Here is a visual link that really helped me when I first got started.
