    i just realized something.
ok so anyone knows who's read my post.
im on here everyday and have asked a good 10000000000 "?"s.

    here's another.

i just realized that my female shed about 2 months ago.
since then she has gained a good 600 grams. she's a happy eater. and mind you on mice not rats.

    ok so to the point,
a few to couple weeks ago i noticed she went from creamed coffee brown,
    to an olive green.

would that be "the glow before they go" that is mentioned on
    http://www.ballpython.ca/gallery/breeding.html

just wondering. my lady seems very happy locking up with her man and
    chowing down her meals everyweek.

It could be. It's really hard to tell with out pictures. How many locks have you seen? How long have you been pairing? Have you palpated her? If you're afraid of palpating, handle her for a bit and once she relaxes, put a snake bag or pillow case on your hand and slide your hand down her underside. If she's close to ovulation, then you'll be able to feel the follicles. Don't be afraid to put some pressure on her belly, she'll just flatten out a bit and it will actually make it easier to feel the follicles and they should feel like big marbles. They're quite unmistakable if she's actually building close to Ovy

how many locks have i seen? and since when have they been pairing?
well i've seen alot. since early sept, late august. i have put my male pastel in with her every week. and every week, i've seen them lock up once to 2 times each week.

i have tried palpating and dont feel anything.
but i also dont know how to properly do so.
when i do, i feel nothing but soft belly and her muscles.

these two have been locked up many times for a while and each time for HOURS AND HOURS

i know its still december and im gonna have to wait till it gets warmer
for her instinct to kick in and ovulate.

but will there be any signs to look out for to indicate folicles?
will she stop eating before or after she starts developing folicles?
while building folicles, do they keep to the warm side, or cool side?
do they always "bowl-wrap" or become "lumpy"?

any help would be well, helpfull.

Jump on youtube as there are several "how-to's" on palpating and examples of what to look for. Also, Markus Jayne's site has an awesome step-by step during breeding and ovulation with pictures that I think will answer most of your questions. It's here:

Good luck and before you know it, you'll be posting videos on how to properly palpate!

    yeah that site helped alot,

but i still wanna know when is it she would go off feed? before folicle development? i wouldn't think so.

    but im a newbe.

All females are different, but what I've seen is that they'll typically eat after cool down, locking up, and pre-ovulation shed. When they glow, they may still be eating. Keep pairing males with your girl until she refuses his advances. She'll start refusing food around this time as well. Just wait for her to tell you when she doesn't want to eat.

Good advice. :gj: I've only bred one clutch thus far, so I'm no expert... but with my one clutch, this was basically the process I noticed! Mona (the mom) is usually a good feeder, and she stopped eating between the pre-ov shed & ovulation - which was very obvious in her case (looked like she'd eaten a rabbit, LOL).

You know what might help, sookieball? I keep very good records on my snakes, so you should check out Mona's iHerp breeding entry: http://www.iherp.com/HerpTrack/Breed...ingRecord=1418

Then look at her general records for that time period, and see when she stopped eating, shed, etc: http://www.iherp.com/HerpTrack/Track...AnimalID=25982 (scroll down to March-June 2010)

P.S. As you might notice from those records, the mojave ended up fathering the clutch, and they were only together ONCE... she was with the pastel for months prior to locking with the mojo, and he swooped in like a pinch hitter. :D So you really never know what to expect from these guys, and have to let nature run its course!
