    hi i was wondering if a female snake will ovulate even if it did not breed to a male hope you can answer my question thanks

    since your in the ball python forum ill assume you mean will a ball python ovulate without breeding. i honestly dont know about ball pythons in this regard. i can tell you i have had many corn snakes and king snakes and even a milk lay eggs without being with a male. all the eggs are infertal of course.

    i do know that balls can look like they are ovulating (building follicles) and never lay any eggs...

    No, ball pythons will not lay eggs without a male to fertilize the follicles! She may build follicles but she then will reabsorb them if she does breed with a male!

    Actually, it is possible but extremely rare. I believe it's called Parthenogenesis. (However, I am not sure if ovulation takes place when this happens?)
