Loser's caging

Built the first cage as a test run, everything went together fine, so looks like i got 3 more to build. I still got to add a RHP and ill be all set.The reason I didn't add any vents is because I end up covering them up anyways. if for some reason I need some vents their easy enough to install.

cage is 36x30x14, its for my carpet pythons. I built some bearded dragon cages with doors like this and I liked them alot, so I made some bottom hinged doors for my snakes, I think they will work out good.If anyone is interested in the build of it, I could take pictures as I build the other ones or if you want anymore details lemme know.

chemicals drying, the white caulk is supposed to turn clear in week or 2 it claims, so I shall see.

i want to build something like this for my b/p i want 36x18x16/18 how hard was this to build how much was it if you dont mind me asking and how many sheets of melamine did you need

I wouldn't call it hard if you already know how to use a table saw and mider saw, I'm by no means "good" at wood working so im sure most people could handle it.

it took less than 1 sheet to build my cage, i would suggest drawing out how your going to cut your wood and make sure you can get the cuts you need out of a 97x49 (actual size) sheet of wood.

as far as pricing...
36 dollars for melamine 4ftx8ft
8ish for 1x4 pine 6ft long
5ish for 1x3 pine 8 ft long
3ish for 1x2 pine 8 ft long
sash locks less than 3 bucks a piece
then caulk (white and clear), liquid nails, screws, polyurethane, think all of that was less than 25 bucks worth to build 1 cage.

I had the plexi and hinges laying around, I need to buy more hinges tho for the next 3 cages. plexi an't cheap I know that, luckily ill be using plexi form the old cages for the new cages, so works out for me.

Looks good, I have the same idea but 18" tall so I can put lighting inside(with a slide in screen divider so my balls cant get up to the lights)

I know the home depot by me sells under counter lights for like 10 bucks that the lens covers the light completely, I think their 18 inch t8 bulbs, I know plenty of people who use them in their cages. just a suggestion, might save ya some work.

This looks really good, I think I'll be using your idea for my future DIY cages.

Thanks, BWT have you thought of a "Kreg Jig". I have an idea for stack-ables but I need them to look great too of the wife wont let them in the house.
She likes your setup too but asked why were all the screws visible LOL

Though I dont know how they would hold in melomine? I am planning to build mine out of aspen planks, just need to recoup from holidays;)

looks are the last thing on my mind, I don't care at all when it comes to caging lol, I figured someone could just use some pine wood filler over the screws on the front if they wanted. and the reason for all the screws...ever deal with home depot wood before? its never flat lol. its just how i build things, im sure you could use half the screws as is and be fine.

i've never seen the kreg jig before, im sure you could find an application for it building cages, actually I can already picture how to do it in my head, heck maybe ill get one for other projects. im sure you could use it when you build your cages and make wifey happy. :)

their commercial is a little hyped up but all infomercials are. i like the reenactments of gluing the wood together. also there nothing special about their screws, you can buy them at any hardware store. and it doesn't completely replace dowels and biscuits, but does for alot of things
