Moving during breeding season....

Since it is relatively unavoidable I kinda wanna hear some oppenions. I may have to move (work related) shortly after the first of the year..... How is the stress going to affect my females... I have 5 females breeding this year, and dont want to loose clutches but have to take the risk anyway.... So positives...negatives I just wanna hear it

Well....I hear stories of breeders buying adult females and a few weeks later they lay eggs. I can tell you that last season I moved into a new snake room, 2 doors down, and it really affected my season. I contribute losing 4 or 5 clutches to the move, the girls slugged out. So from my personal experiences, moving during breeding season is not a good thing. :colbert:

We moved our whole collection the first week of October from the Chicago area to Colorado Springs. Luckily we didn't have any gravid females or eggs to move but we did have two clutches of week old hatchlings. They all traveled well but I had some issues with a few hatchlings not wanting to eat. I have one that still hasn't eaten. However, I started doing some pairing and have had a few locks already and lots of good signs from the girls. So it seems the move hasn't effected their schedule too much.

Sorry, I don't have experience moving gravid girls but I would assume the shorter the time it takes to get them to their new home the better.

I have a friend who moved from Iowa to Virgina in July for work. Granted that's not mid breeding season, but he moved several clutches and gravid girls. I can't be sure on the number of clutches or gravid girls, but he moved them successfully and just had his last clutch hatch last month if I remember right. I'll shoot him an email and I'm sure he'll give you some great advice!
