First I would start doing your research. What subspecies are you interested in? Cheynei, spilota, harrissoni? They all have their differences, but I LOVE the morelia genus. I love all aussie herps. :D I have a pair of jungles from headhunter reptiles. They are the perfect classic, clean, yellow and black jungles.

You can start looking through the morelia section on this site to get a feel for the different subspecies. Also an amazing morelia site to check out is moreliapythons.com. I am currently a member and absolutely love it. I even have their shirt. Pretty sweet I must say.

In my opinion, carpets are one of the best pythons. They are just becoming popular so morphs are starting to pop up.

i decided that i like the spilota, now im wondering how to get a good snake and supplies to get started. any suggestions of breeders near here i live in vermont so shiping a snake in this cold weather would most likely be bad?

Spilota, or Diamond Pythons are a "cold weather" python. They need to be cooled every season to be kept healthy. Most people starting cycling the snakes second winter. Pure Diamonds can get pretty big. Ive seen males at 8ft. Look on faunaclassifieds.com, kingsnake.com and moreliapythons.com. Each has carpets for sale all the time, and there are pure diamonds up for sale right now.

Steve Kelly aka SEK Exotics is a great guy and produces some amazing carpets. He has a clutch or two of diamonds up for sale right now. I think its 700 for males, 800 for females and 1300 for pairs. Im not sure of any carpet breeders in Vermont.

As far as winter shipping, its up to you. Ive had breeders ship me snakes in January and I live in the Adirondacks, and my village is usually the coldest place in the nation during the winter. I got a jungle carpet shipped to me in the winter and he arrived nice and warm. Just have the breeder throw in an extra heat pack and make sure they have a good insulated box.

But before you do any buying, DO YOUR RESEARCH. Diamonds do require a little more attention because of the cycling and can also get pretty large. If your new to snakes I would suggest a Irian Jaya or Jungle.

Again check out moreliapythons.com. They have caresheets for each subspecies and have a very knowledgeable community, along with this forum.
