    Cajun Combos -- Update
These photos were taken within the last couple weeks. Not pictured are the Cajun Yellow Belly and Cajun Pastel -- I will be posting photos of them soon. I am happy to submit that ALL the Cajun combos are improving with age -- always a great thing in the Ball morph world! :gj: Thanks for looking. :)

    Bill,
You say that the Cajun is a co-dom color and a pattern morph? What is the difference between the het and homo versions? I am just curious as they look the same to me. The only one that I see as "different" is when the Cinny is added to it. I would love to see a Black Lithium, I bet that would really smoke.
The Cajun truly is very nice and I really love the Lithium version!

So what makes a cajun a cajun? Because I can certainly see its effects when you mix it with the butters and especially with the butter cinnamon... but that super cajan sure looks like a super normal to me. How the heck did you pick it out for a dinker?

They really look similar to the Het Reds. I am not saying they are,but similar. Even the Cinny influences the pattern in a way that is similar to the Het red. If you look at the Gargoyle and the Lithium there are some similarities.

I can see how folks would have questions about the gene. :gj:

Not a few folks believed the Cajun to be a Het Red over the last few years. Cajuns are not only unrelated to any existing gene -- they carry unique combo characteristics/virtue as well!!

The differences between Het Reds and Cajuns are many. Red Axanthics are lighter(Axanthic) and highly striped in comparison with the dominant Het Red. Super Cajuns are darker and have an EXTREME, UNBROKEN black back when compared the dominant Cajun. Het Red combos, including the Het Red Cinnamon, get darker with age -- as do MOST genes and their respective combos. Cajun combos get brighter with age.

Cajuns vs. Super Cajuns: Cajuns are red in color tone (see pic of founding female in thread). In fact, I named them after an interior paint color -- "Cajun Red". The Super Cajun is a BLACK-toned animal with no hint of red. All THREE Super Cajuns have neck breaks -- as do all FOUR Super Cajun Butters. Of the 20+ Cajuns I have produced over the last 3 years NOT ONE has a neck break. The Supers belly bellies are more extreme as well -- busy like a YB, but over the entire belly. The Super Cajuns have a black wash. The Cajuns do not.

I will say that I have the advantage of not only working hands on with Cajuns, but also having produced the first Lithium (Butter Cinny) combo. Clearly, these are advantages when deciphering differences that are sometimes subtle. :)

The hyper-melanistic quality combined with the extreme black back of the Super Cajun presents some INCOMPARABLE combination possibilities. Many breeders understand that some color genes benefit from a DARKER morph being added into the mix. If you can get a pattern with that pigment -- all that much better!! ;) With the above in mind, I am starting a color project with the Cajun gene this season. If my hunches pan out -- the Super Cajun...???? should be AWESOME!!!!!
