    Basking Area
Is a basking area necessary if your ambient temps and belly temps are in the correct zones? I'm trying to stay away from buying a ceramic heat emitter and that's the only way I know of to create a basking zone... So is it necessary for my BP to have a basking area or will he be content without it? He seems happy now...

When you say hot spot do you mean the hot side? Sorry BP's are new to me :)

ur hot spot should be where ur belly heat is, keep that around 92. the rest of the enclosure should be kept around 80

A basking spot is kind of a waste when it comes to ball pythons... you should be able to maintain a decent enough floor temperature and ambient air temp with a UTH (under tank heater)... I personally have a UTH and a reptile light hanging above the aquarium on the cool side... mainly because I have a 30 gallon TALL tank and it is hard to maintain a decent ambient air temp in that :D

And when I say kind of a waste... thats in my opinion, of course.
