male's gone limp
yeah my male pastel is just not being the stud he was a few weeks ago...
my girl is in there waggin away and scenting up the enclosure,
and he chases for about 1 minute.
than lies around the warm side o the enclosure the rest of the time.
i've tried the "other male shed" to get him all riled up and no dice.
but he's been locking up with her since september.
and has spent all month off his normal large rat meal.
he's only eaten about 5 lg mice in the past few weeks.
and normally he's a monster and eats like there's no tomorrow.
i would pop my other male to get some pluggs to
rub on her back, but he's still to young and i dont know how to properly pop.
i'd rather not hurt him.
any opinions or suggestions?

Re: male's gone limp
Hi,
Could he be going into shed?
Only one of mine has ever locked while in shed. What is the female doing when he is not in the tub with her? Is she glued to the hot spot or does she move around I mean.

i dont think so. he shed about 2 months ago. as did she at the same time.
when he isn't in there she is all over the place.
however during the day she spends most of her time on the hot spot.
at night she is very active.
she hasn't missed a meal since late august just before i paired them up.
5-6 mice a week.
1 med or large rat for him.
he hasn't eaten his normal meal since nov 1st.
and just this past friday she missed her first meal.
looks for the mouse curiously but no strike.
i havent seen any signs of her being gravid.
water bowl hugging,
folicles(well i have never felt them before, so still new to palpateing.)
when i put him back in with her,
she doesn't scent like she used to.
and he dont give chase like he used to.
he on the other hand is glued to the hot spot.
while she is off and on.

Maybe he's just tired--give him a week off. :)

i agree, give him some time to recuperate! lol
our spider locked up with our albino many times last year, but then all of a sudden he just stopped. we usually put them together, witness a lock, when they're done we remove the males for 3-5 days, then try again. i would give him awhile longer, they can definitely tire out, don't spread your males too thin!

i had a pastel male go at it numerous times with my big normal girl and then he stopped, so I gave him a couple weeks off and when I put him back in, he went right back to town

yeah, exactly. poor males get tired!

Being studded out is a hard job!
