Best way to make Caramel Glows?
Im wondering what the best way to make caramel glows is?
Breeding a caramel to a orange ghost or breeding caramel het for ghost to a ghost het for caramel?

    Hi,

Well the second pairing ( caramel het for ghost to a ghost het for caramel ) is the only one of the two that can actually produce caramel glows.

The first one ( caramel to an orange ghost ) would produce double hets that look like normal ball pythons.

But breeding those double hets together would possibly produce a caramel glow as well.

How about 2 snakes that are 66% het for ghost and caramel bred together?

66% hets aren't guaranteed to produce their visuals. They are 66% hets because their parents were 100% hets. 66% hets haven't been proven as heterozygous for the gene in question.

    Hi,

Well those would be possible hets.

The only problem with possible hets is they might not be.

Since both caramel and ghost are both recessive then to stand any chance of getting a visual combo both parents have to be at least het for both traits.

It's a gamble at the best of times with possible hets but when you need the animal to be het for two genes at the same time I'm not sure I would have the patience to try it - I know I wouldn't have the luck.

Just to add even breeding 100% dual hets the chance per egg of hatching a caramel glow is only 6.25% ( or a 1/16 chance ).

Breeding a caramel het ghost to a ghost het caramel raises that chance of hitting the combo to 25% per egg.

I'd say the best way would be to get a couple DH females to save some money without having a visual morph. I imagine you can get a female DH hatchling for about 750-1k. Next I'd either look at a male DH or a visual ghost 100% het for caramel or visual caramel 100% het for hypo. That would greatly increase your odds and also give you offspring that you know you can work with towards the Caramel Glow. Right now I have a male DH and 2 female DH. Unfortunately for me that when I produce a visual caramel or a visual ghost, it will only be possible that they carry the opposing gene, and I will need to prove them out. Rather than knowing 100% for sure IE: if I had a caramel male het hypo, if I produced a visual Hypo, I'd know for sure the offspring would be 100% het caramel albino. Same if I had a hypo male 100% het caramel, if I produced a visual caramel I'd know for sure they would be 100% het hypo. This would greatly increase chances of producing a caramel glow in the future. As for now, I will need to settle with my 1/16th chance. Hope this rambling makes sense.
