Rack Systems

Anyone got some links for do-it-yourself racks? 6-10 tubs, something fairly small.

I've already seen Tim Bailey's. Which I like, Tim's a great guy...and has a great guide and build material list, but I'm looking for something smaller.

This will be my FIRST rack system and I am leaning towards pre-built, heating installed, and possibly thermostat installed as well. Ready to go.

But I have an urge to check out some do-it-yourself builds first.

If you do decide to go the plug and pay route, then check out Reptile Basics and get a rack from Rich. I have a CB-70 Rack of theirs and it's one of the best quality racks i've seen or had.

The rhinoraxx are a bit expensive but I like them alot more.

i'll be adding casters to the bottom to make it a little easier to move as melamine is HEAVY (another $8).



*edit*

there's an 1/8" gap above each tub, which allows for smooth removal as well as airflow. to do this i built up the sides/base, put a tub upside down in the bottom, placed a 1/8" stack of paper on the tub, then placed the next shelf and screwed it in place. i then repeated the process for the next level. this leaves a constant 1/8" gap between each tub and the next level :-)

What would be used for the backing for the rack? Cardboard style insulation or something?

Yes you only need roughly 10 feet to do the snake through it. Across the bottom down the side... across the bottom down the side. So on so fourth.

4 inch flexwatt @ $2 a foot.

Yes u can u can order flexwatt and u tstat through rich. If your a real "noobie" he can wire both ur flexwatt and tstat for u so all u do is tape it to the rack then its plug and heat :)



Also i like doing the snake run cuz not only does it heat the bottom of the tub but theres also heat coming from the side. I find it helps keep my ambient temps up inside the rack due to side and belly heat :)
