opening his mouth

Hi everyone!

Its been awhile since Slide's scare with his first live mouse, he gobbles them right up now.

Since you guys were so helpful when I had trouble then, I thought I'd come back with a quick question:
A couple of times (maybe 3) that I had him out, he would just open his mouth real wide, kinda like yawning. Does this...mean something?

Perfectly normal. I've heard some say that yawning is a sign of stress...but I haven't personally made that connection. In my experience, they do it less and less as they get bigger, though. I've had babies yawn in my hands...but I don't think my biggest guy ever has. And my juvies rarely do.

The yawn can be a device that the snake uses to reailign its jaws after eating. Other than that, I don't think anyone scientifically knows why they do this.

I don't think it's anything to worry about, but I'm not there to see it personally. The only Caviat, would be if the snake would happen to have something stuck in their mouth.

It's normal. Mine is an adult and still does it a lot. When I show her to people, I always have to make the point that her doing that is not a sign of aggression. I think it's kind of cute.

Completely normal, no worries. I still haven't figured out why they do it when not right after feeding, but then again, why do humans yawn???

Thank you everyone for your answers, I too think it is kind of cute and am glad to confirm that, as I suspected, there is no malice behind this seemingly innocent .

We've been having some low humidity, and a little lethargy to go with it and a choppy shed last time so I've made some house adjustments to bring up humidity and I'm following the instructions on the shed bath stickie to help this shed.
