Heating Question

I have a baby ball python with a 100 watt red bulb at the top for heating. It gets way to hot in there so I also have a light adjuster but I was wondering if I could use an under tank heater INSTEAD of a heat lamp. I read that people like to use those more, but I also read they need a basking spot. The bulb is also sucking out the humidity like crazy with the change in weather.

i would reccomemnd an UTH with either a dimmer or thermostat to get your temps ight, the problem with the red/blue lights iv found is when on a dimmer or thermostat they just shut off there is no other control and the flashing light drives me crazy personally lol zoo med makes a good UTH just make sure u get the right size and a rehostat(dimmer) or thermostat cause they can get to 130+ without one and thats really bad for the snake

So I can just get rid of the heat lamp all together then? I would much rather get a UTH.

if you get the right sized UTH you sure can, altho im gonna assume your using a glass tank which means screen top and there for problaby low humidity, so you are gonna want to put either foil or plastic wrap around 2/3 of the screen top to help maintain the humidty you need you are gonna need the dimmer tho because you can essentially cook your baby bp without one

Excellent. Yup I do have a glass tank, and the half the top already has saran wrap over the top but humidity is still dropping like crazy, and I know the heat lamp is just making it worse, definitely gunna pick a UTH up. Thanks!

happy to help, if the humidity is still low you could always try and cover more of the screen top or a bigger water bowl, becareful not to cover the whole thing tho as this wont allow proper ventillation and that in itself will cause other problems
