    Pregnant Mice and Plans
Not sure what it was, but for a while, my production just dropped. I fed off one group and now have plans to expand my colony by a lot. For now, I'm still making enclosures and I have to wait until we move before I can get the new mice.

I have 2 groups left, and I have pregnant does in both. First group is a group of 1.6 agouti mice. I counted at least 3 pregnant does when I was cleaning their cage. The other group is a 1.2. Both females are heavily pregnant and should give birth this week.

Finally I'll be getting some baby mice.

My plans for future mouse production...

I will be running 16 females on a 2/5/2 schedule. They will spend 2 weeks with the males, 5 weeks in their own personal nursing tub, and 2 weeks on vacation. I will run these females in groups of 4 and spread out the breeding so that I get new litters every 2 weeks or so. I will have 4 males available for breeding. We will see how this works and I will post about how it works or does not work for me once I have it up and running for a few cycles. I'll post pictures of the set up once we move and have everything situated and have mice in the tubs.

Sounds like a good plan to me, very thought out. I am starting mine up now and this was very helpful. Thanks.

They finally popped. One female had her babies on 11/10/10 and had 11 babies. The other female (her daughter) gave birth to 11 babies on 11/11/10. I already fed off 11, so I have 11 left. These 11 I'm going to raise up and possibly keep a few as future breeders.
