    my rant
So I was watching a man versus wild and he found a water monitor and cought it.
Then he lifted it up and wacked it 5 times on a tree.
Then later he found a mangrove snake and cut its head off
In another episode he killed what I thought it looked like a mojave rattlesnake
He said the mangrove snake could possibly kill him

I find that there's a very fine line between educational and wasteful, and Bear crosses it a lot. It's one thing to tell people what they can and can't eat in a pinch, and it's another to kill the animals and eat them when it's not needed.

And it's not just in Man vs. Wild, but in a lot of the survival shows, the host will find something that could be dangerous to them if provoked, they kill it and then tell the viewer about how dangerous it was. It's all about the shock value.

I agree. I was raised in a hunting family. We do a lot of hunting and we eat what we hunt. But even I find those "survival" shows to be offensive and wasteful. I do not watch them, nobody in my family will watch them and my wife will regularly write in to animal planet complaining about the shows and the wastefulness of them, and the cruelty such as taking a beautiful lizard by the tale and whacking it into a tree to kill it. Their reply is always along the lines of if you don't like it don't watch it.
