Snake Escape

Anyone have any ideas on how to find a 20-gram normal-colored corn snake in a 4220-sq-ft house? My little one got out last night and I don't know where to begin. He's so tiny that I'm almost afraid to frantically start destroying the house for fear of hurting him inadvertantly.

The reptile room has an ambient temperature of 80 degrees, so I'm hoping he hasn't actually left that room. Unfortunately, if he has, there are at least a million places for a snake that small to hide.

My Ball Python escaped and I found him coiled up around the plug, behind my fridge...good heat source off the coils there...snakes will find a good, consistant heat source.

You Should Check Any Place That Provides Heat And Every Spot Thats Around His Cage. My Corn Snake Escaped 4 Yers Ago I went Crazy That My Advice Is Stay Calm And Look Around.

Just stay in the room and see if you can hear him move but if not I have caught all my escappees with Scotch Tape. Just put scotch tape along all door ways and stairs and along couches. It will catch him and just be careful removing the tape

just my two cents but i wouldnt try the the tape thing. ive seen snakes wrapped up in tape and its really not good at all.

a buddy of mine left out some dominos around the areas he thought his escaped little bugger was and sure enough, on night he heard the dominos fall and there she was!

another guy i knew lost a corn and found him about a year later in a closet. hungry and extremely dehydrated. i never thought hed make it but he did.

What a brilliant idea! I'd have never thought of something like that. (Though, hopefully I will never need to. Lol.)

Line the doorways with flour, you'll see him move if he does.

A 20g corn is an unlikely find though. When young corns escape they move a lot further and faster than ball pythons. Keep looking but they can go into much smaller areas and are less likely to seek heat like ball pythons. :(

That really sucks and I'm sorry to hear that! One that small in a house that size! Some really good advice on here and hopefully it pans out for you. One thing I know of that worked but I'm not sure on the success rate was to put a small brown bag (lunch size) on a heat source (heating pad?) on the floor with a mouse in it. Again, not sure of the success rate (well, 100% but it was only tried once that I know of, lol!) but it's worth a shot.

As has already been said, a snake that small going to a heat source...the odds aren't in favor of it nor is luring them in with a food item but it worked for a good friend of mine on the one occasion he tried it. I've also heard of glue traps being used with a MILD adhesive remover such as GOOF OFF! being used to remove it. NOT THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION, by far but if all else fails... I lost a young hognose a few years back, its such a panic looking into the cage and having it not be there!

Mine happened to be underneath the dresser the cage was sitting on. He didnt get far, hopefully yours wont travel too far either.

your little snake can go quite awhile without food, personally i would put down a water dish in every room and just keep my eye out. Im sure it will turn up.

I've heard putting a heat pad in the middle of a room and turning off the lights...then waiting about 20-30 mins and checking the pad...it'll be there. I've never tried it but I've heard it works. Good luck!
