sperm plugs

there was a post on "how do i know if my male is producing sperm plugs" and the answer is by popping them.

what if you don't have a lot of experience popping snakes yet? any other way to go about this?

i have a 600 gram male pastel that is on and off food. currently 30 days since he has eaten last. ive been told a few days with a female might cure him of this. but i would like to make sure he is ready because i have a 1200 gram male cinny i know is ready....Kirk

Fill up your bath tub with a couple inches of water that's just a TEENSY TINY BIT warmer than room temp. (They really don't like warm water.) Put the male in it and make him swim for a couple minutes.

50/50 chance you'll also get a bowel movement, or at least some urates... but you're quite likely to see the plugs floating around in the water after you take him out.

Some times you can catch the sperm plugs hanging out a bit if you look. Also some times you can see them randomly on the newspaper (or whatever substrate your using).

Popping is the only way i know to get plugs.....@ 600g he should be ready

Only true way is to pop. Find a breeder in your area or the next upcoming show and try to see if someone could teach you.

Just curious... did some research.. and found ball pythons do not produce sperm plugs.. they have a shed that covers that area but no actual sperm plugs.

Technically, it might be true. However I've also heard of people inserting the sperms plugs of reluctant breeders inside their females. So I guess there's a least a small amount of actual sperm in there.

A true sperm plug is to stop other males from mating with the same female.. the male does his deed, inserts a SPERM PLUG and blocks the passege. This stops other males from breading sussecfully with that female and garenties the survival of HIS genes. but since you can bread more then 1 male with the same female with ball pythons that theary doesn't apply. I understood that there is a "plug" on ball's but that is only a peice of shed that comes off when they are ready to bread. I may be WAY OFF, I'm a begining breader my self with only 1 clutch under my belt, but I do alot of research online. Since I see so many adds from known breaders talking about selling there males that are producing sperm plugs I thought I'd look it up. the info mentioned above is what I found. I'll post a link if I can find the articals again.
