Does This Baby Have A Chance?
I have a clutch coming out at the moment, two babies out their eggs, three still in.
I checked on them and one of the babies was half out of the egg. It went back in a bit when I lifted the lid on the egg box. I checked a bit later and the baby just has it's head and about 2" of it's neck/body out of the egg.
However, I can see a large blob of yolk in the egg, about half the size of a plum, maybe a little bigger and it looks like the umbilical cord or something is constricting the middle part of the yolk, wrapped around it and slightly tightened. I hope that makes sense?
I didn't want to investigate too much as didn't want to disturb the baby too much. I'm assuming there's nothing I can do, but has anyone had this and is there any chance the baby will be OK?
Re: Does This Baby Have A Chance?
All you can really do is leave it to it and hope that everything will be ok hun. I had one last year where the umbilical was wrapped around the snake itself, and I very carefully managed to untangle it and the baby was fine. I've not had this same thing happen though, but if you try to intervene sometimes the baby can rush out of the egg and rip it's umbilical away and not get any of the yoke. All you can really do now is wait it out. I hope the little one will be ok for you though :)
Re: Does This Baby Have A Chance?
Thanks so much. I feel so sad, I knew this kind of thing happens and I could it expect it at some time, but I just hoped it wouldn't be my first season. :(
I'll just have to wait it out then. Everything crossed.
