"new" to snakes

Hey, i've been lurking here for a couple weeks and thought i'd post something. I'm new to big snakes but grew up catching and keeping garter snakes as a kid. I live in British Columbia, have cats, a horse, flock of sheep, 4 ferrets, husband, and 3 month old son. Soon to add a couple rats to my family as well :D

I'm hopefully getting my first BP in a couple weeks! Someone on another one of my forums has a 6 year old Normal female that she can't keep anymore, so with any luck she'll be coming home with me when I have the $$ for her. She's quite the hefty girl and pushing 5+ feet :O I'm hoping to get a breeding weight male soon after, there's a large breeder on the mainland that has some breeding weight males. I'd like the Mojave he has but may only be able to afford a pastel(not really anything to scoff at) :rolleyes: From what I've read it would be possible to get a 2010 male and breed next year? If that's the case I could afford a nice young morph :please:

You've heard right(according to most things I've read and seen). So long as you get him to an ideal weight where his body can handle the stresses of breeding(average seems to be between 675-775g for a first timer) but I've heard of much lighter and heavier. I'm sure someone with more experience than me could give you some specifics. Don't quote me :P

edit: I hope you get that girl. There's pieces of her shed all over, husbandry might be a little funky :(. Hope you get her.
