    Maternity Tubs ( help!! fast)
Hey guuys, silly me... I made a rat breeding rack full of 90 qt sterilite tubs a couple of days ago and loaded them up with 1:4 rats... Anyways, I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THE MARTERNITY/NURSING TANKS! Well, none are pregnant yet but most of the rats are already adults so I need your help on this question:

I'm building a rack for the nursery again.. What kind of tub should i use for the pregnant mother and her woul be offspring? o.o Please be specific on the size! Also, what do you guys recommend so i could avoid them chew outs? Thank you!

Number one, I would scrap the 90qt Sterilite breeding rack. Thats a chew out waiting to happen. Switch over to Petmate litter pans.

Jumbo litter pans are great for breeding in.

Medium litter pans are great for birthing tubs.

You can buy Petmate litter pans at walmart or k mart or some other places.

Thanks for the advice bro! Though, i live in the Philippines now.. i have no access to those brands.. or wallmart or k mart... guess i'll just have to make do with what's available here. Could you give me the dimensions of those pans? I'll try googling them now but if you could, that would be helpful. Thanks fella!

I would order them online and get like twice the amount you need so the shipping is worth it. Don't get them at a petstore, the prices are rediculous, the jumbos as my store are $14.99 EACH.

Ordering online may be an option for you. I would look into it.

The 90qt sterilite's are fine. Give your rats something to chew and keep an eye on edges, but after 6 weeks of three norways and 4 ASFs in two of these, they're still in there and haven't chewed out. Those edges that make the lids snap that they might chew on eventually get so thinned they can't chew 'em anymore, and tossing in some wood for them made the ignore the plastic except for when the norways want some attention from me.

As for your problem, I've just left mine all in the same tub and had no problems that resulted from it. I do plan on expanding and then putting males in one tub, rather than leave them all together so I can control my color and genetics, but right now it's working fine. I should even have another litter on the way, even.

I leave all my moms, pop, and babies together. No deaths and been breeding like crazy. So far the rats breed better than my soft furs. Hopefully that changes though.

I agree. Buuuut, tossing all the males together makes it easier to breed for traits and/or color. :P

yea wasnt thinking about it from that point, i only keep 1 male in each tub, once i wean them they go into a grow out tub or tank or w/e doesnt really matter since 90% of em get fed off at that point anyways lol
