So You wanna be a Breeder?
What is it that you admire out of the Ball Python Breeders that you have dealt with?

What is it that you want to see more of?

What do you want to know about breeding that isn't touched on much?

I admire their desire to satisfy the customer and the commitment they have to their animals.

Projects that various breeders are working on. It is always exciting when someone lets us in on something never seen before!

I'd like to know more about the business side to breeding. The legal stuff involved, tips on getting started, sort of like a checklist to cover all the bases.

Getting to work with animals you love and making some pretty cool looking snakes.

    Different color combos

Legal situations, dealing with a large collection day to day operations etc.

    Great post Heather!!! :salute:

1.) Their passion to the animals. It's always refreshing to see a breeder put a lot of care into the animals they have. It's not just all about the money... it's the love for ball pythons!

2.) Affordable morph combos in my favorite colors! :D

3.) I would love to see a full-fledged experiment on the spider x spider controversy. Would also like to see more morph color progression as the bp ages so I can know what to expect of the snake as an adult.

    Great questions, LadyOhh...

I would like to hear about the small business and tax side of how everything is run. How to set that up, what is involved, that sort of thing.

Kind of in addition to Andrew's post. I would like to know what the overhead, utilities and feed bill is for a full time breeder.

The breeders that I have dealt with on an extended basis have been great. They all seem to genuinely care about their animals, and care about breeding the best snakes possible.

I'd like to see more albino projects. That's just a personal pref. though.

I'd like to know more about the problems that come up, and how they are dealt with. I'd also love a guide covering the time from egg laying to egg hatching.

Not just with ball python breeders, but the reptile world in general, I love that it is a warm and welcome environment, not closed, clanish, or snobbish... The local breeder that helped me get started is now one of my best friends......

Their dedication to the art of breeding.

I want to see more new discoveries. It'll keep us all on our toes.

I want to know more about potential complications, and what to do if they come around, as was mentioned before.

I admire the breeders who genuinely care about improving the lines they breed, not just turning out morphs as fast as possible, no matter what they look like or how they mature.

I'd love to see more in depth discussion of how they accomplish their goals. How long did it take you to get a specific morph to reproduce how you wanted it to look ? What do you look for when adding new blood ? How do you select which babies to keep and expand on, and which to let go ? Those kinds of things.

I want to know more about what it involved in the day to day of care and breeding of both small and large collections.
