    Low/high white pied offspring ?
Have any of you who have bred pieds
Noticed a correlation of high white
Pieds giving more high white offspring
Or low whites giving more low white offspring?

I have a hard time believing it's totally random.

Any offspring with their parents pics?

    Thanks

I spend a lot more time looking at clutches of baby pieds for sale on KS and Fauna than I should... and while you do see a lot of high-whites throwing low whites and vice versa, you also see a lot of clutches in which the pieds all have the same "look".

I think it's probably possible to line breed for one or the other--ie. if you breed high white parents, and then only hold back and breed the white babies, I think in a few generations they'll start to breed true for that trait.

Totally random. Unless you breed the same exact 95% high white pied to another 95% high white pied and bred them for at least 5 or 6 years to see if they threw high white babies more so than low white. It is completely random.

Having bred pied's for 5 years in a row now my personal observation is it's random. I have hets that throw high whites. I have had 2 high whites breed together and throw low whites and high whites in the same clutch.

The thing with pieds is that it does seem to be random, but really looks are determined by genetics, so I see why it would make sense for high whites to give more high-whites in theory, and vice versa.

I was going to put something super-genetics-y right here but I disproved myself, so my only option is that it is completely random, even though it would make more sense to have some degree of predictability because appearance is determined by genes.
