    Photo editing software of choice
I'm currently taking up the challenge of building my own website. All the computers I own are Macs and I'm looking for some good photo editing software I can use to create and edit pictures and logos to use for the website.

My question is what software would you guys recommend for this task? The only photo editing software I know of currently is Photoshop for Mac and Aperture. Would anyone recommend one of these or possibly a different one?

Photoshop is good and I use it a lot. But I also use a lot of Illustrator as well.

If you're working on a mac and are making a DIY website, check out RapidWeaver. I used it to build my website. I know absolutely nothing about making one, but couldn't afford to pay anyone. While my site isn't the best, its good enough IMO. Rapidweaver is worth the money for sure.

That's great guys, thank you for the inputs so far.

Could I use GIMP create and edit pictures and logos to use for the website, and stuff like setting black background against the picture of the BP? And make stuff like the BP.net logo thing on the top left hand corner of this page, can GIMP be used to make stuff like that or would i need some kind of PS to do that?

AFAIK, GIMP is a full fledged photo editor. You should be able to do all of the things you're talking about. I've always had the Adobe Creative Suite and have never had any reason to use GIMP so have no first hand experience with it.

Don't get much better than PhotoShop! My wife is a graphic artist and that is what she uses.

Ditto that. Photoshop for everything here. It's just awesome :)

Thanks for all the input guys.

Is there a particular version of Photoshop (it seems like there is a million of em!) that would work for what I need as a beginner? I would mostly be using it for cleaning up and setting backgrounds for website photos as well as creating logo designs and adding my logo to existing pictures and stuff like that.

I use Photoshop CS4. It's really nice. It's definitely more user friendly than the earlier versions.
