to see or not to see

I have never belived much in the words.... My snake only eats white or dark rodents, but I have a lesser that only eats a rat with dark spots on it. Ive kept a record of his feeding by color. He has never talken a all white rodent. and will go weeks with out eating when given a white rodent, but put in one with some color and he's all over it. So what dose he see, because he not going by scent.
He dosen't care if it fresh kill, frozen or live if its has spots it gone, white no way.

it is weird....I had a large demale once who would only eat black rats.....if it had one white hair, forget it....I have no idea how she knew.:confused:

My spider is the same way, he will only take white rats.

BP's have pretty good vision, it’s about the same as a cats. Some BP's have a habit a associating certain characteristics when it comes to food. Most BP's just smell the rat, see the shape of the rat, see the heat coming off the rat and that's all they need to mark it as food in their minds. Some need the rat to also move to associate it as food. Some need the rat to have dark or light fur to associate it as food. BP’s are notorious for imprinting on certain characteristics for their food.
I have a big female BP that will only eat male rats. Drop a female rat in with here and she doesn't identify the smell as food.
