    Blue with a twist
A friend of mine and I share rat genetics back and forth and this time he hit me up with one he knew would make me smile...

The genetics are actually black eye'd white which quite often throws masked when bred to a blaze.
The mask just happens to be blue instead of agouti like the moms mask.
The mom is a top eared agouti masked standard coat that carries blue and dumbo.
The dad is a black berkshire rex coat possum faced dumbo eared boy that I gave him.

Blueberry ~ Blue masked standard coat female

Looks great! As soon as I'm comfortable and know what I'm doing with my breeders (and clean out my god forsaken closet  ), I'm going to start breeding for colors. That will be very fun to try doing since Petsmart only seems to carry black and white hoodeds (ONCE I saw a tan hooded), the closest PetCo only carries female rats that are skittish (one from there has been loose in my room for a good 2 weeks and is pregnant, so I either I catch her within a day or a big killing trap goes down), and Pet Supermarket buys whatever they get from local sellers that keep quiet.

I DID see a quad group at Supermarket of hoodeds that were white with cream/very light gray hoods. I thought those were GORGEOUS!

Breeding for colors would also be a good idea. I have two berkshire males in the two litters (well, of the ones that survived), and the other 7 are b/w hoodeds, including my two keeper girls. I still have trouble telling everyone apart except for one male with a diamond shape blotch of black on his back. :giggle:

If you haven't been to this site you might go to the home page and bookmark it.

So many of the rat traits are recessive which makes finding out what they carry much more difficult obviously.
I have 4 main color types I do and 4 coat types.
I have black, blue, Himalayan and agouti and hopefully agouti blues in my 2 current litters :please:
I make standard coats, satin coats, rex and velveteen coats.
I also make blue black and Himalayan dwarfs and hopefully agouti dwarf's soon too.

It's pretty awesome to have a black rat throw nothing but Blue and Himalayan babies :P

Oh my goodness, that little face is just the best thing I've ever seen! It looks just like my female ferret's face! (She was from a bad breeder, but still cute just the same!)

What's really kewl is she's all about wanting to be held.
She comes right out of the tub into my hand when I open up her tub :P
I'm think I'm going to breed her to a blue blazed boy to see if I can reproduce some more like her.
Still have more research to do on masked rats to see if they carry the high white gene.
